And they’re not screaming from the pain….well maybe some of them are, (epilators do pull out hair after all!) but more because this is just such an awesome hair removal product. (Back to Top)
The Emjoi Emagine does a very thorough job of removing hair due to its power and the dual opposed 72 tweezers in the head of the unit. The way the unit is curved allows it to get real close on every curve of your body to get even the most stubborn little hair. Compared to other epilators, it pulls out more hair and does it in fewer strokes, which results in spending less time epilating overall. Furthermore, it does a great job of grabbing fine hairs, and can be used on the upper lip and chin area. The results last much, much longer than with traditional shaving, and it’s common to go 4-6 weeks before needing to epilate again.

Pain level

It goes without saying that whatever epilator you use, there will be some amount of pain involved. Pain will also depend on your experience with using an epilator. However, the Emjoi seems to ease up on the pain more than other epilators out there, due to the speed in which the hairs get pulled, plus it doesn’t require as many passes over the skin so there is a reduced amount of hair pulling overall compared to other epilators. Many users have reported that the Emjoi isn’t as bad as it’s competitors. So those of you out there who are sensitive to pain (like myself!), you’ll definitely want to keep this epilator in consideration.

Easy cleanupEmjoi Emagine cleaning

When I try to clean a razor, I always have a hard time trying to bang it on the edge of my tub to tap all the little hairs out, but cleaning the Emjoi AP-18 is a breeze. It comes with a brush that does a great job of getting out all the small hairs, and the head of the unit comes off to make cleaning even easier.

Reduced ingrown hairs

The AP-18 is designed to sniff out the tiniest hairs as short as 0.5 mm. The middle lifting fingers are able to lift up and pull even flat hairs in order to reduce stubborn ingrown hairs that razors miss (and cause!). The Emjoi AP-18 is also touted as the first epilator to employ Silver Ion Technology, which provides antimicrobial protection for your skin in order to prevent infection.

Pros & Cons

product name prosPros:
– Pulls out hair quickly, which means less pain

– Can be used on the face

– Takes less passes to cover an area due to the 72 tweezers. This means the job will get done quicker than with other epilators.

product name consCons:
– Needs to be plugged into an outlet to use.. However, this is the reason why the AP-18 has the power that it does. There is a cordless version (click here to check it out), but the corded model is reported by users to be much more powerful and effective. There’s a tradeoff between power vs. convenience of having no cord

– Pricier than other epilators

– Operates moderately loud

Emjoi AP-18 Emagine FAQ

Emjoi AP-18 epilatorWill using the Emjoi Emagine hurt? Any epilator involves pulling out your hairs, so some amount of discomfort is to be expected. Many users report that the Emagine hurts a little more on the first use, but then later on they become used to it and the discomfort isn’t that noticeable.

How fast will it get the job done? On average, customers who bought the Emjoi AP-10 say that it takes about a third of the time less than shaving, and works faster than most other epilators due to the 72 tweezers.

How smooth will my skin be afterward? The entire hair is pulled out, root and all, so you can expect your skin to be quite smooth. No stubble will be left over like with shaving.

Is the Emjoi Emagine epilator easy to use? About as easy as shaving, except you need to plug it in and flip a switch. Also, there’s no shaving cream or gel to deal with.

Can I use it in the shower? No, the Emjoi Emagine can only be used dry since it’s an electrical device. I sure hope nobody tries to bring this in the shower!

Can it be cleaned easily? Cleaning this epilator is a cinch. Just use the included brush to wipe away any hairs. The head can come off as well to make cleaning even easier.

How loud is it? It’s moderately loud, but whether it’s annoyingly loud is subjective. Some users say it’s fairly loud, and others say it’s not loud at all. A few users on amazon have said that it’s not loud enough to bother their pets. Check out the video I included of the user demonstrating it….as you can see, you can hear her voice over the sound of it.

Will it leave any redness or bumps? This will depend on your skin type. Users with fair skin have reported that they’ll see a few red dots on the skin immediately after using, but it goes away in a little while. Those with darker skin will likely not notice anything afterwards.
